PREVIOUS FAVE EVENTS 2008

FAVE EVENT of December 2008:
Thomas D., Dec 18th @ Gasometer

I never was a fan of his music, but Thomas D. manages to catch you with his performance, his lyrics, his charm,... He enjoys every second he is on stage, he loves his audience, he lives his music, so there is no other way then to love him.

And with lyrics like this, you just have to worship him:

Denn da alle Liebenden
Innerlich immer noch Kind
Und da die, die reinen Herzens handeln
Unsere größten Helden sind
Rett ich die Welt
Mit Deiner Liebe in mir
Denn ich bin für Dich da
Nein ich bin wegen Dir hier
Da Dir die Fähigkeit
Zu lieben geblieben ist
Und die Kraft zu vergeben
Ein Bestandteil Deines Lebens ist
Wurde ich erweckt
Und was tief in mir schlief
Führt nun Feder
Und schreibt Dir diesen Liebesbrief

FAVE EVENT of November 2008:
Travis, Nov 21st @ Jugendstiltheater

November was so full of amazing gigs that is hard to decide which as the best gig, so we go for the most special one: Travis, actually just Fran and Andy played a acoustic session in the beautiful Jugendstiltheater at the Baumgartner Höhe.
A show full of amazing songs and funny story. We are in love with Fran Healy and his songs.
You can watch the show at the FM4 website here.

FAVE EVENT of October 2008: The Wombats, Oct 18th @ Arena

The Wombats manage to get everyone in the audience to dance, shout and sing. And everyone went home happy that night.
So join the band in singing:
Let's dance to Joy Division and celebrate the irony. Everything is going wrong but we're so happy!

FAVE EVENT of September 2008: Veto, Sep 17th @ B72
September had lots of superstars in Vienna, and some of them (Coldplay) did an amazing job, but still, we nominate Veto's showcase at the B72 as Fave Event of September.
Indie, Electro, Rock combined with a fabulous voice and danceable songs.
We love Veto and are  "Crushing Digits" with them.

FAVE EVENT of August 2008:
Frequency Festival, Salzburg

It has always been and still is Austria's best festival.
All your favourite  indie and rock bands on three days surrounded by the Salzburg mountains.
Not even the rain can change the fact the Frequency festival is just the place to be each August.

FAVE EVENT of July 2008: FIB 2008, Benicassim, Spain

The best festival of the season, beach during the days, gigs at night. RockMISSes turned the nights into days and partied hard.

An amazing venue, lovely food and geniuses on stage - that's what a festival needs.
Miss BB fell in love with Mr. Leonard Cohen and danced the night away to the sound of Hot Chip, while Miss Ana dreamed to Death Cab for Cutie, to name but a few of the amazing acts.

FAVE EVENT OF May 2008

The Great Escape, May 13th - 15th, Brighton, UK

There is absolutely no doubt what our FAVE EVENT in May was:
The Great Escape, the 3-day-new music festival in Brighton, could easily be the event of the decade. Best new music
(think: The Mae Shi, We Are The Physics, Maths Class, Elle Milano, Pete & The Pirates...),
great locations (old-school-pubs, gigs on balconies, street & beach gigs)
and lovely people all over the place.

RockMISSes are in love with Brigthon and the great "new music / city festival" concept. We'll be back!

FAVE EVENT OF April 2008

Jose Gonzales - Flex

Not a gig that you would call rock'n'roll, but still the best of the past month. José Gonazles' voice is magical, his guitar picking unique and the quality of his song-writing undoubted. Considering what huge venues he already plays in UK and US, Vienna was lucky to have a chance of the intimate encounter at Flex. We are already looking forward to seeing Mr.Gonzales back at the Frequency festival!

FAVE EVENT OF March 2008
The Fashion - March 5th- Arena

Our Fave Event of March title goes again to a band from Denmark:

THE FASHION played in Arena Wien on March 5th and made us dance our night away.

Definitely not the biggest, not the busiest and not the longest gig that RockMISSes attended in March.

- but definitely the one that we will still talk about in 5 years.

A few weeks after their gig in Vienna they played many shows in the USA - also on the SXSW - and got amazing critics. So, it seems these talented and creative boys from Kopenhagen did not only impress RockMISSes.

So we say: next time The Fashion come to Vienna, they are determined to play the biggest, the busiest and the longest gig! :-)

FAVE EVENT OF FEBRUARY 2008
Duné (support of Panic at the Disco)- March 1st - Gasometer

February started somewhat slow, continued slightly hectically and and ended with a bang: 3 nights of great gigs in a row (Mando Diao, Guadalajara, Panic at the Disco)
Miss Ana's definite hightlight was the Mando Diao performance in the Stadthalle. Yes, she is being slightly subjective there, ok - but the guys played well as never before!
Miss BB's heart was dancing during the Jimmy Eat World expectedly great performance in Gasometer.

But we will give the FAVE EVENT of February to these guys's performance:
Duné from Denmark opening for Panic At The Disco at the Gasometer.

They were energetic, the sound was awesome and the audience picked on the good vibes from the first beat on. They might be young, but they perform like pros!
Apart from that they were rightly drinking and partying like there was no tomorrow at the aftershow party on Badeschiff.
They proved that they have manners, though, as they did not forget to come around and introduce themselves to the RockMISSes from Vienna. Way to go, guys! :-)

FAVE EVENT OF JANUARY 2008
Smashing Pumpkins - Jan 31st - Wr. Stadthalle

Music wise it was definitely the show of the month;
they played a 2,5 hour set including (nearly) all hits (at some point RockMISSes wonder if it was because they loved playing, or if Mr. Corgan needed to prove that he had written that many songs). It sounded great most of the time.

But as a lovely FM4 Host said, they just worked, like a machine, this machine is working perfect -
but sometimes it is better not to be that perfect.

FAVE EVENT of 2007

Sounds big, doesn't it? The sole words "THE BEST EVENT" of an entire year puts a slight pressure. Especially, if the mentioned year was as exciting and inspiring as this one. MissAna & MissBB together saw over 300 bands performing, went to the one and the other party, lived music 24/7.  So how to measure, where to start, what emotions to apply?

We say: no other than our own guts!

And therefore for the RockMISSes there is only one event of the year 2007 that can take this throne.

MUSE headlining the Escenario Verde, July 22nd 2007 @

FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL de BENICASSIM 2007 (aka FIB07)

A MIND-BLOWING GIG:

For sure, MUSE have proven one more time that they are the best live performing band on EARTH these days. They blew our minds off by the sound and the visuals and it was hard to believe that 3 guys on stage could produce something that... HUGE (and that the electricity would not break down during that atempt). The audience was left dumbstruck after those 60min and it would have been a nice view from the above to see how it actually took everyone awhile to realise their coordinates and where-to-go-now's.

There are many additional reasons why FIB07 could be voted the FAVE EVENT of 2007. Some of them you can read in Miss Ana's Festivals' Sparks. But there is also...

SOMETHING MORE:

Most probably there would be no RockMISSes if it weren't for FIB07. There is no factual connection between those two, like cause and consequence. But the lack of those makes it even more charming to us. Like a magic of a Fave Show.
